MDFR's ''These Boots Are Made For Walking'' team at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

(MIAMI, October 14, 2014) – On Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, MDFR's ''These Boots Are Made For Walking'' team was one of the 338 teams that took part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Marlins Park where more than 7,000 participants have raised more than $420,000.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among American women. About 1 in 8 (12%) women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 40,000 women will die from breast cancer this year. At this time, there are more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

Members of our department have been touched by breast cancer in some way or another; for that reason, MDFR's participation in the event was to provide support and awareness of breast cancer related issues through fundraising. This year, MDFR's team is in the top ten and is still fundraising to make it to the top three. Donations can be made until the end of the year.
